DFDT attempts to show diversity and versatility of movement, choreography, and dancers in its work.
We strive to create works that are exemplary of our time and to push the concepts of what we know today as dance and dance performance. DFDT is working to revolutionize art for the new millennia!
DFDT looks to serve the community of Jacksonville and the state of Florida with a professional dance company.
Diesel | Fusion Dance Theatre (DFDT), was founded in 2005 by Carlos Miller and Ms. Staci Long under the name Diesel Dance Company (DDC) in Jacksonville Florida. In it's original conception was to be as the dance performance leg of Florida Night club, The Metro.
DDC, as community outreach program, set out to provide dancers with limited, if any, training, a venue to work and learn as well as perform dance. The original members of the company were primarily street dancers, drag queens, and professionally trained dancers who sought to express themselves through dance. The company performed for several functions, events, and pageants at the Metro night club.
The Diesel Dance Company disbanded, when Artistic Director, Carlos Miller, moved to New York City in 2006. Shortly, after Mr. Miller took his leave from Florida, in July of 2006, James Brown, owner of the Metro and supporter of DDC passed away from Liver failure after a short bout with Cancer, and in June of 2007, Assistant to the Artistic director, Stacie Long, was killed in a tragic car accident
Diesel | Fusion Dance Theatre (DFDT) is the reincarnation of the former DDC. DFDT takes from the original ideals of DDC and works to expound upon them to create a company that escapes the bounds of specific dance forms. DFDT is a collaborative effort that brings various dancers, choreographers, photographers, composers, designers and artists of all types together to offer performances that span the spectrum. Work for DFDT is in any and every dance form available, from ballet to belly, modern to hip hop, classical and contemporary.
DFDT works combine dance with theater, technology and all types of media, in an attempt to create art that is exemplary of the new millennia, and takes art from where it is to the place it needs to go. Carlos hopes to offer a repertoire and performances that combine new works from young choreographers alongside masterpieces of the forefathers of dance. DFDT is a company that seeks to redefine art by showcasing works of innovation, virtuosity and creating beauty in any and every form. DFDT is an eclectic mix of artists and talents that looks to change the face of dance and art.
